We invite aspiring Japanese-to-English translators to apply for a free in-person workshop scheduled on November 20, 2024 at the Waseda International House of Literature, led by Polly Barton.

Applicants are required to submit the following:

• Your CV including your translation experience

• A cover letter explaining why you wish to take part in the workshop, and what you believe you would contribute to the workshop

• A sample translation: about 1000 English words. Please submit both the Japanese original and your English translation. Both published and unpublished materials are accepted

• Please send your application to wihl-translation@list.waseda.jp with the subject “November workshop”

The deadline for application is September 30, 2024.

The results of the screening will be notified to all the applicants by October 15. Successful applicants will be required to submit their translation of the first three paragraphs of “家族アルバム”, a short story by Mieko Kanai, and to read the whole story before the workshop.
