About the event

Join us to discuss The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu. In this session, we will be looking at how Murasaki Shikibu enhances her narrative through the use of music as a poetic trope.

For this discussion, the Hahakigi, Suetsumuhana, and Akashi chapters will be referenced. You are welcome to read any versions you may have, though the Washburn & Waley translations will be used by the speaker for reference. Please note that Arthur Waley and Suematsu Kencho editions are incomplete.
