Join us to discuss some of the greatest classics of medieval Japanese literature, written by women authors!

For April we will be reading the works Utatane and Izayoi Nikki by the Kamakura period nun Abutsu-ni. These are very interesting reflections from one of the most celebrated writers of the medieval era.

For the PDFs of these texts, please email joanneha@japansocietyboston.org. Full text should be read in advance of the meeting.

Looking ahead to May, we will be reading the Poetic Memoirs of Lady Daibu - a fascinating account of life in the Taira-dominated imperial court of the 12th century. Here is a link to the WorldCat libraries page, where they give you different options to purchase the book. If you are having difficulty locating a copy to purchase, please do not hesitate to reach out to joanneha@japansocietyboston.org.

The club is limited to Japan Society of Boston Members. Interested in joining but not yet a Member of the Japan Society of Boston? Consider becoming a member today!

This event is hosted by JSB's Special Events Associate Christopher Ellars.
