About the event

Our book for the next few sessions will be The Confessions of Lady Nijō (Towazugatari) as translated by Karen Brazell from the Kamakura period. This session will cover the introduction and part one.

Suggested questions to consider while reading:

1. Can we treat The Confessions of Lady Nijō like other Heian period works, despite being written in the Kamakura Period?

2. How does Lady Nijō pay tribute to her genre while also transforming it?

3. What reasons could there be for the lack of reception history?

4. How trustworthy is Lady Nijō as an author?

The club is limited to Japan Society of Boston Members and is hosted by JSB's Special Events Associate Christopher Ellars.
