About the event
Join us for a hands-on beginner-friendly kintsugi workshop led by local kintsugi artist Tad Murao. Kintsugi embraces the philosophy of wabi-sabi, highlighting "imperfections" with metal powders and transforming your broken piece into a unique piece of art.
In this comprehensive 1.5 hour workshop, you will explore the history and philosophy behind kintsugi, learn the basic techniques of modern kintsugi repairing, and have the opportunity to repair a broken ceramic piece with step-by-step guidance from the artist. Since traditional kintsugi takes months to fully cure, we will be using brash finish and epoxy which hardens in a short time, allowing you to take your final piece home at the end of the workshop.
$75 JSB Members / $90 General Admission
(plus an additional cost of $5 if you don't Bring Your Own piece)
We welcome you to bring one broken ceramic piece with a container that is large enough to hold the repaired piece for safe transportation back home. The broken ceramic piece should be broken into no more than 4 pieces and should be smaller than 8 inches when repaired. Items that do not meet these requirements will not be finished in time.
If you are unsure about whether your piece is suitable for the workshop, please email us with a description and photo of the piece you wish to fix at kintsugi.boston@gmail.com
If you do not plan to bring a broken piece, we will provide you with one for an additional $5. Please register with the appropriate ticket type (BYO=Bring Your Own piece).
Ages 16+ are welcome to sign up.
