The Japan Society of Boston is co-presenting a film with Taiwan Film Festival of Boston. On Sunday, September 29th at 10:30 AM, there will be a screening of the Taiwanese-Japanese romance film "18×2 Beyond Youthful Days," followed by a talk with the director, Michihito Fujii. Professor Jennifer Cullen from Northeastern University will be moderating the in-person post-screening discussion.

About the film:
A lovelorn Taiwanese man embarks on a soul-searching odyssey across Japan, starring Kuang-Han Hsu (Greg Hsu) ("Marry My Dead Body," 2022) and Kaya Kiyohara ("In the Wake," 2021), this poignant and romantic journey captures the essence of youthful passion and longing, weaving a story that resonates deeply with the heart.
About Director Michihito Fujii:
Born in 1986, Michihito is a graduate of the Cinema Department at Nihon University’s College of Art. After college, he founded the visual content creation collective BABEL LABEL in 2010.
Michihito made his directorial debut with OH! FATHER (2014), which is based on Kotaro Isaka’s novel of the same name. He has since released numerous dynamic films, including WE ARE (2018), DAY AND NIGHT (2019), THE BRIGHTEST ROOF IN THE UNIVERSE (2020), and A Family (2021). His 2019 film, The Journalist, was nominated for six Japan Academy Prize categories, three of which it won, in addition to numerous other film awards. He is one of the most anticipated and acclaimed contemporary Japanese film directors.
About Moderator Jennifer Cullen:
Jennifer Cullen has a PhD in Modern Japanese Literature from UCLA and is the author of “A Comparative Study of Tenko: Sata Ineko and Miyamoto Yuriko” (2010), “A Blank Page: The Canonization of Higuchi Ichiyo” (2015), and Writing Purity: The Rise of Virginity as a Literary Concern in Modern Japan (2015). She is currently an Associate Teaching Professor of Japanese Popular Culture and Film at Northeastern University, and the managing editor of The U.S. Japan Women’s Journal.
