BETWEEN THE LINES:
A Monthly Discussion on Medieval Japanese Women's Literature
THURSDAY, November 7, 2024
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM ET
Hosted online via Zoom
Join us to discuss some of the greatest classics of medieval Japanese literature, written by women authors! Â
Next meeting, we will be reading the Noh play, Sumida River by Kanze Motomasa. It is included in the publication Travels with a Writing Brush by Meredith McKinney.
You may find a copy of the book here.Â
This is a wonderful play that will shift from literature written by women to literature about women from the male gaze. The internet has many wonderful videos on Noh theater, and to provide more cultural context, we recommend this one produced by Boston's own MFA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRL6FujVDAs&t=546s
The club is limited to Japan Society of Boston Members. Interested in joining but not yet a Member of the Japan Society of Boston? Consider becoming a member today!
This event is hosted by JSB's Special Events Associate Christopher Ellars.
